Complex MMCs

One of the greatest compliments I’ve ever received as a female author is how well I write complex, layered MMCs. In my universe, my men are never one-note. They’re intentional. They love deeply. They carry emotional weight—and that’s something I believe Black MMCs, in particular, deserve. I enjoy creating male characters who are more than just book-bae material. I want them to feel real. Memorable. The kind of men who linger with you long after the last page because you understand them.

When I’m crafting a male lead, I’m always asking myself a few questions:

 Why is he flawed?

 What wound is he carrying?

What is he searching for—love, redemption, peace, purpose?

And what is it going to cost him to finally get it?

In my stories, the men don’t just exist to be desired—they evolve. They wrestle with grief, pride, fear, loyalty, and legacy. They love imperfectly, sometimes recklessly, but always with intention. Their growth is just as important as the romance itself, because love hits different when a man has had to confront himself to earn it. That’s the kind of depth I aim for. That’s the kind of man I want readers to fall for.
